The Bedpans are a band composed entirely of active healthcare professionals; 2 doctors, 3 nurses and 2 medical students. All worked at one time together in the emergency department of the same Montréal hospital.
The group began playing together, jamming in lead guitarist Jerome Stasiak’s basement, somewhere around 2008. Soon after, they put out their first album, a collection of songs entirely written by Jerome. They sold out their first run of a few hundred CDs and played a few shows around town. Various band members came and went but one constant has always been that the members of the band were, in some capacity, healthcare workers.
On this song, “Alone”, their 3rd streaming release, besides Jerome on electric guitar we hear Bedpan veterans Will Grad on keyboards and bass man extraordinaire, Evgeni (Gene) Volovik. Val Delcourt provides lead vocals, with amazing background harmonies provided by Diego Alvarez with help from Natasha Felix. The Bedpans newest member, the extraordinary Chelsey Ju (of chyls fame on Soundcloud), co produced this single with Will and added a whole new dimension with solo violin. She was also responsible for creating the synth percussion groove, and chimes in with some keyboards of her own.
Others who have contributed to The Bedpans sound on previous singles include David Hornstein on rhythm guitar and Olivier Lavigueur with additional percussion on “Believe”. As well, Jocelyne Stevens and Danielle Grad graciously donated their 4 hands for clapping on “The Pain”.
Band members are currently spread out between Montréal, Edmonton, San Francisco, and Medellin, Colombia, yet they still plan to continue recording, sharing tracks from a distance.
The band wishes to thank Claus Frostell, who was in charge of the recording and mixing of the tunes and Philip Hornsey, of Timpano-Percussion, for the use of his recording studio.
